We’ve all heard the bad news: An epidemic is wiping out honey bees in California and the nation. Bee populations have been declining significantly over the past 25 years, and a substantial and growing body of evidence points to neonicotinoid pesticides as a key factor. The Golden State has a special responsibility to respond to this threat: Our state's agricultural production accounts for more food than any other state in the nation – and that means our local economies depend on the health of honey bees.

This is the first open congressional seat in the country since November, and we have a chance to send a true fighter for our values to DC who will stand up to the reality TV star in the White House. There are a lot of great candidates running, but when it comes to the environment the fighter we trust is none other than Jimmy Gomez.

I was thrilled to join advocates from Green California – a network of more than 100 organizations with a common environmental, health, and justice agenda – for our annual Advocacy Day in the state capitol. We met with more than 100 lawmakers and their staff on the most urgent matters facing our communities.
